Gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, June 22nd, 6:00pm - 9:00pm with a prayer service at 7:00pm all at Landmark Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Friday, 10:00am at Nativity Catholic Church.
Barry R. Betzing, 69, of Hollywood, passed away June 5, 2017. Survived by his loving wife Anne of 31 years, sons Steven, Keith (Andrea) of Dunedin, Fl and David (April) of Trinity, FL and daughter Debra Betzing-Holdridge of Dunedin, FL. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Curtis; brother-in-law William Scherer, sister-in-law Rita (Russ) Anderson and grandchildren Lisa, Matthew, Emma, Mia, Jayson and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister Nancy Scherer and his brother-in-law Richard Curtis. After graduating from Woodward High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, Barry visited his grandparents in Florida and soon relocated. He served his country proudly as a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Coast Guard for twenty years as a machinery technician. After retiring, he became an auto mechanic repairing fire trucks and a range of vehicles for Broward County for 27 years. Barry was an active member of the Nativity Menís Club participating in bingo, parish workdays, and breakfasts on a monthly basis. He enjoyed running the taco booth with Anne and Steven at the annual bazaar. When it was all over, Barry dismantled the electric set ups in the tent until the wee hours of the morning. Barry also volunteered regularly for the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry serving many dinners and cleaning up many plates, and lately helping his wife cut 18 cakes in an evening. In his spare time, he attended local Strikers soccer games, NASCAR races and car shows. Last summer, he attended his 50th high school reunion and reconnected with many old friends.
