Emil J. Delvecchio of Miami, Florida, passed away July 7, 2017 at the age of 85. Emil was born and raised in Fort William, Ontario, Canada, graduating from St. Patrick Catholic High School. Emil first came to Miami in 1950, but later returned to Fort William to apprentice as a brick mason. He met and married the love of his life, Anne McManus, and they moved to Miami permanently in 1954. Emil worked for several South Florida masonry companies before establishing E. Delvecchio Masonry. In 1960 he partnered with August Andersen to form Del-And Masonry. For more than 30 years their company completed block, brick, and stone work on many commercial and residential buildings throughout South Florida. He belonged to the Elks Lodge of North Miami, the Optimist Club of Miami Shores, the Touchdown Club, and was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers for more than 50 years. For many years, he coached the North Miami Optimist Club’s little league and senior league baseball teams. After a family vacation to Fort William in 1973, Emil rediscovered his love for ice hockey and began playing and traveling with the Florida Eldergators of the Oldtimers Hockey League. Emil enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren; working on his computer and on his corvettes; and working in the gardens he planted at his home. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 65 years, Anne; his son, Anthony; daughters Sandra Thornburgh, Wendy, Michelle, and Christine (Jason) McElvey; sister June Haygood; grandchildren Jennifer, Michael, Ryan, Kristen, Caitlin, Chase, Mary, and Avery; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Emil was predeceased by his beloved parents Anthony and Filomena (Marino) Delvecchio; daughter Katherine; sister Aileen Ramsey and her husband Ed.
