Visitation Monday, August 14, 2017, 5:00pm - 8:00pm at Landmark Funeral Home. Military Honors and Funeral Service will be Tuesday, August 15th beginning at 10:00am at Landmark Funeral Home followed by interment at Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Miami Lakes.
Carolyn Ann Ballantine, 81 passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 in Hollywood, Florida.Carolyn was born on November 14, 1935 in Miami, Florida and was the only child of the late Chester and Angelina Covington. She graduated in 1953 from Fort Lauderdale High School,where she was involved in many clubs and was a member of the band. After high school, she enlisted in the United States Army in 1935 as a member of the WAC band, where she played the oboe. After her honorable discharge, she and her husband Robert Zulauf moved to Rochester, New York to start a family. Shortly after, they welcomed their son Robert and daughter Robin. After moving back to Florida, they had two more daughters, Mary Ann and Claudia. Carolyn enrolled in the nursing program at Miami Dade Junior College, where she received her Associates Degree in Nursing as an RN in 1970. She went on to attend Florida International University, obtaining her Bachelors Degree in Healthcare Administration. She married Paul Ballantine, whom she met during her medical career. Throughout her more than forty year span in nursing, Carolyn never stopped seeking additional specialization in her field. She earned her critical care nursing certificate and worked in multiple disciplines, however her proudest accomplishment was her many years spent as a trauma room nurse specialist at Jackson Memorial Hospital. She was a member of many organizations in the medical field and never lost her passion for always helping others when they were ill. After being widowed, Carolyn eventually met Jay Cuthbert and they were married until his passing. Carolyn leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she loved dearly. She is survived by her son, Robert Zulauf and daughters, Mary Ann Johns and Claudia Camey; step-daughter Anne Cuthbert. Grandchildren Jacklyn Johns, Augie Goytisolo, Abigail Camey, and Addison Camey; great-grandchildren Mila Johns-Anfuso and Nolan Johns-Anfuso. She was predeceased by her daughter Robin Zulauf.
