A funeral service will be held 7PM on Friday, at Sheridan Hills Baptist Church, 3751 Sheridan Street, Hollywood Florida with a visitation from 5PM until the time of service. Buriff, George Howard, 87, of Hollywood, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 18th. He was born on November 22, 1930 in Centerville, Ohio to his parents Gilbert and Clarissa Buriff. He was quarterback on the first ever football team at Centerville High School where he fell in love with the game. After graduating from high school he joined the US Army where he served in Germany. After serving he attended Ohio University and after graduation became the head coach of the first ever football team at Miami East High School in Casstown, Ohio. In 2008, he was inducted into the Miami East HS Athletic Hall of Fame. In 1967 he moved his family to Hollywood and joined the coaching staff at McArthur High School where he became head coach in 1972. After a number of years as head coach he joined the horticulture department at McArthur and devoted his efforts there. After retiring from teaching, he studied the craft of bonsai where he spent his time growing and selling when his affinity to play golf allowed the time. George is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Ruth, children Brent and daughter-in-law Debi Buriff, daughter Barbara Gordon and son-in-law Paul, son Bradley and daughter-in-law Carolyn Buriff, daughter Beverly Devine and son-in-law James. Grandchildren, Michelle, Jeffrey, Charissa, Tricia, Nicholas, Danielle, Dylan and Joseph. He is also survived by great grandchildren Connor, JJ, Autumn, Addison, Christian, Camden, Avianna and Ephram. He was welcomed home by late grandson Shane Buriff.
